Looks We Love

One of our favorite looks lately is the braided crown, and Kourtney Kardashian knows how to rock it for any occasion. This look works best on long hair but a version can be created for those with shorter locks.

How to achieve this look:
Start by softly teasing the crown area for a more voluminous top.
Next, create two french braids coming from either side of your part and split halfway down the back of head, keeping the braid close to your scalp. Braid entire section down to your ends and secure with a thin hair tie. Repeat on other side. Wrap the ends of the two braids in opposite directions around your head by your hairline in the front and back, forming a crown-like shape. Secure the crown by pinning the ends of the braids behind your ears.

For short hair:
A version of this can be great for shorter styles. Create a braided headband that does not cover the back of your head by starting on only one side of your head and creating a french braid with all the hair in front of your ear that stays close to your scalp and is secured behind your other ear.

* Stylist Tip*
For either looks- If you have bangs or a fringe, start braids directly behind them. Also leave out a few wisps of hair in front of your ears for a more whimsical feel to your style.

Balyage

Out with the old and in with the new!
You may have heard of Balyage but never really knew exactly what it was. Balayage,  meaning "to sweep" is a free-hand highlighting technique that allows your stylist to get closer to your root for an easier grow out, creating a very natural flowing highlight. We love how balayage is taking over the world of highlights! Celebrity stylists have been using this method to create their clients sought after color for some time now, and more people are catching on to the trend. Painting in highlights can be used for multiple looks, from traditional root to end blondes, to soft ombre. As well as being so versatile Balyage is a great choice for over processed ends that need a touch up because your stylist won't be pulling the color all the way through. Next time you're in the salon, ask color  your stylist for this time saving and beautiful technique!

Fall Trends

Here at fresche we've already seen the changes of fall. As the days become more chilly, it is a perfect time to switch up your look! We all know our clothes change when cooler weather hits, but no outfit is complete without great hair and make up. New York Fashion Week has just wrapped, after seeing all the fun new trends, we've compiled a list of our favorites:

Bold prints are everywhere. Mixing multiple prints and textures can make for a big statement, so we suggest pairing with a more simple hair style. Stick with a more solid hair colour with very subtle dimension if this is a trend you will be wearing a lot this fall.

Peplums are still in this season, which is a look we love! Pairing dresses or tops that have this fun shape will be complimented well by low ponies, sleek buns and dramatic side parts. KMS Silk Sheen Polishing Serum is super helpful with creating a smooth finish like these.

Leather and army print pairs well with the more grunge hair and makeup that is big this fall. Embrace your natural hair texture by air drying and playing it up with products. We love KMS Wave Foam and Playable Texture to achieve the messy but styled second day look. This style goes well with minimal make up, which is a time saver at home! Skip the lashes and lipstick and go for your favorite eyeliner and gloss!

Sock Buns from last year are stepping aside and making room for less shaped, messy buns. This  style is great for making second day hair look fresh and put together. Also, fishtail braids were everywhere at New York Fashion Week, such an easy way to dress up your style. We love to use KMS Makeover Spray as a dry shampoo to give your hair some grip when working with braids and buns.

For your next trip to the hair salon, step up you hair colour by playing off the hues of fall.

Blondes- We all love that nice sandy, cool toned blonde, but maybe for fall try embracing a warmer look. Try a glaze that will enhance the shine of your hair but also add a touch of honey or wheat tones. Our favorite warm blondes are celebrities Jennifer Anniston and Blake Lively.

Brunettes- Our favorite brunettes in Hollywood right now are the ones that have lots of dimension but still look very natural. Instead of last years dramatic ombre, opt for a more subtle color melt, or highlights that stay away from your roots and frame your face. Think sun kissed.

Reds- The richer the better. We will forever idolize the perfect red of Christina Hendricks. If you are going to highlight, cover with a red gloss to keep your dimension subtle.

Fall of 2013 is all about Back to Basics. Keep your hair and makeup simple and play up what your momma gave you. Enhace your natural color with subtle dimension and utilize your products to give you either a nice polished or rough textured look.

a fresche make-over

Favorite make-over! My client, Linda, came into see me about a month ago. As with every client, I began by asking a series of questions to get to know who Linda is. She explained to me, that she is a passionate woman, she fights for children's rights, and has adopted four children that she is a single parent to. She also told me she was sixty, and tired; but did not want to look like that any longer! I was very excited to be a part of Linda's transformation and new attitude. We began by cutting her long, hair that was only weighing down her pretty face and not doing anything for her. I created a layered shag that she can wear curly or blown out for body and waves. Next, we started the de-colourizing. Linda's colour was grown out and very grey at the root area; but had dark brown box colour on her mid-shaft to ends. After the de-colourizing to remove the brown box colour, I applied a golden glaze to colour balance all of her hair. Linda's hair was blown out using KMS California Tame Frizz to control frizz but allow bounce and fullness. My favorite part, was watching Linda literally bounce out of the salon and through the parking lot. Her hair was bouncing, but even more so was her spirit! Make-over by: Joi Rooks
