Fashion week for fall 2010

Fashion week in NY is full of high energy, creativity, art, interesting people, and lots of eye candy!

Arriving on Friday night, the week started off on Saturday 2/13 with the first show: Band of Outsiders. While I hadn't heard of this designer before; I quickly became a huge fan! Not only are the clothes re-freshing, young and fun they are also very wearable and practical.
Before we (the Sebastian Design Team) arrived for fashion week; lead stylist, Thomas Dunkin had met with all the designers and discussed what looks they wanted for hair for their shows. Saturday morning we had a workshop with Thomas to see, learn and practice all the looks for the entire week.

Band of Outsiders show hair: very casual, textured hair using Sebastian's Volupt spray throughout the hair on the scalp and through the ends (lots of product!) to create volume and textural-movement in the hair. Then the hair was finger-teased into a messy pony-tail in back.

Next show (and my personal favorite) was the hi-light of my week thus far on Valentine's Day no less.........Betsey Johnson.
I still can't believe I worked this show; and was able to meet her! She is so full of everything....life, love, energy, fun - she's still amazing and KNOWS how to put on a runway show. Betsey thought of everything~ from vases of pink and red roses on our working stations to plates of candy that were re-filled all day; and even pink champagne for us to drink! She graciously sketched and autographed cartoon-like thank you posters that donned the walls to the hairstylist and make-up artist for working her show.
Her fall/winter collection that will be coming up later this year is so very exciting! Inspired by vintage/western cowboys and girls; her show was filled with a variety of styles and looks that included floppy cowboy hats, full skirts and dresses like the old saloon-style from a western film. Cowgirls gone bad!~
The opening model for the show was Kelly Osborne who came out on stage wearing a bandit-style masque that she unveiled to the audience halfway down the runway.
Closing the show was a model giving tribute to Alexander McQueen...carrying a sign that said: Long Live McQueen.

Betsey Johnson show hair: lots of tosseled volumous hair with frothy texture. We created this look with Sebastian's Volupt spray and velcro rollers; then removed rollers and finger-teased the set into 2 quirky, not perfect pony-tails and finally set it with Re-Shaper hairspray. Creating a very bouncy, see-through, cowgirl type look.

3rd show was Zero+Maria Cornejo. A Spanish influenced designer that has hand tailored clothing. Her clothes are more simplistic in design and colour; but impeccably constructed. The focus on this collection was definitely in the layers and separate pieces that accentuate the shoulders.

Hair for her show: Very natural, simple texture.

This has been an amazing experience that has re-confirmed how hair is fashion and style is individual to the wearer.

Last show of the week for us:
William Rast (a.k.a Justin Timberlake's a partner)
The clothing line has expanded from just denim to a complete lifestyle collection, including leathers, outerwear, wovens and knits; known for delivering quality, detail, design and comfort. Grounded in the iconography of American denim heritage and biker culture, yet re-packed and presented in a contemporary context, William Rast has found it's place on the floors of top-tier department stores and boutiques across the globe. The show was packed full of music, and lived up to everything the line represents.

Hair for the show: Textured twist using volupt spray blowing it into each section of hair, then untwisting to create a very beachy natural look; finished with Sebastian's matte putte for a matte texture with an un-kept finish.

What an amazing week to be a part of! Hair truly is fashion; and no look is complete without the right hair to go with it.
Now back to the real world; but right around the corner the next fashion week awaits!
